TRX Systems, College Park, Md., an entrepreneurial manufacturer that is developing an innovative tracking system for first responders, was selected as one of five semi-finalist startup companies in the United States by the Global Security Challenge (GSC). The University of Maryland (UMD) joined the GSC earlier this year to host the American part of this international competition.

TRX’s Firefighter Sentinel System, comprised of a personal tracking device, base station and software, gives responders real-time locations of individuals deployed inside a structure. It also functions as a health monitor, detecting and alerting operators of personnel in distress. The system automatically logs all data for replay, post-analysis and training.
